Haliburton paramedics’ house calls program — caring for the community at home

The Community Paramedicine program in Haliburton aims to keep people out of emergency rooms and cared for in their own homes. Patients and families are thankful for the program.

Show notes

It’s been decades since doctors made house calls in Ontario, but thanks to a pilot program, patients in Haliburton County are getting cared for in their own homes. It’s part of the province-wide Community Paramedicine program that offers both medical care and social interaction, aiming to take some of the strain off the healthcare system and cut down on 911 calls.

CanoeFM spent time with three Haliburton paramedics who see the value of the home visits and the rapport they build with their patients.
